Barb Walters, founder of JAM Interiors, is a Calgary based designer who is tenacious and passionate about creative interiors, quality, and the ultimate customer experience.

Barb studied fashion design in Los Angeles and Montreal and her love of textiles and layering elements has consistently shaped her design aesthetic.

“Fashion is one of the most unique ways to express your personal style. In the same way, your living spaces can also transcend any design trend and be true to your essence.”

With twenty years experience in the Calgary home building industry, Barb has created award-winning interiors. She is excited to take her passion for intelligent design and in-depth industry knowledge in a new direction with JAM Interiors.

On the personal side, Barb enjoys travelling, movies, volunteering, rescuing animals… you know, the stuff that everyone says! All true, but to keep it real, her favourite things are the simplest … preparing dinner, glass of wine in hand, deep in conversation with her husband while their beloved pets vie for attention… aka ‘just hangin’ at home’

The World of Art & Design  

The lines between art and design can be blurred. They both move, provoke, energize or soothe. Further to that, the boundaries between design disciplines can fluidly cross over.

"Ask any designer, and they will tell you their interests and ‘eye for design’ are rarely limited to one field or style. The smallest details are habitually observed… the lighting in a photograph, how a faucet turns on, the lining of a jacket, or how your food is plated. It’s not a switch you can turn off.”

The Beauty that Surrounds Us   

Nature is the universal source of inspiration.  Colour, texture, light and shadow, shape and composition.  It is all there for us to enjoy and draw upon.  

"I have an affinity for neutral palettes and my bias toward minimalism, something I like to call the respect for negative space, is an homage to the vast Saskatchewan skies of my youth.”

Barb is the first to praise her favourite collaborators or share her career crushes. She is also instinctively curious and hands-on, so it’s no wonder that one of her most gratifying things to do is to be ‘in the shop’ or ‘on site’, learning from the invaluable trades, craftsmen and craftswomen that bring design to life.
